Overalls are a timeless staple for a kids’ wardrobe, and I was no exception to this rule.
And neither was my sister.
And I grew to have a sort of overalls obsession. There was a regular denim pair, an oversize vintage pair, the maroon corduroy pair, a khaki shorts pair …
The last documented evidence I have of myself wearing overalls was in 2002, five years after I graduated high school.
Until now! My best friends can tell you, I have been trying to bring overalls back for 14 years. I don’t care if being closer to 40 than 30 makes me too old to wear them … I was so excited to see they are making a comeback that I had to get myself a pair.
I put them on for the first time on Saturday and Pumpkin said, “Mom, why are you wearing overalls?”
“Because I like them,” I replied. “What do you think?”
“You look cool,” she said. Validation.
Later, I was talking to the neighbor in the front yard and Peanut came running out of the house, no shirt, snot running down her face. I picked her up and said something about needing to take her in and get her cleaned up.
“Your overalls really complete this whole scene,” my neighbor said.
It was funny.
And I still love my overalls. Because true love lasts a lifetime.
I’m not sure if I’m styling them in the most 2016 way possible, but luckily there are about a gazillion Pinterest boards to help me out. (Apparently clogs are back, too?) If I need more assistance, I’m sure my little 4-year-old clothes horse will let me know if I’m on trend or not …
