We’re spending the week in Chicago visiting family. Last night, my sister-in-law was nice enough to watch the girls so Mr. G and I could go for a date night in the city. Our itinerary was a little bit touristy – but, for my first visit to the Windy City, we couldn’t have asked for a better time.
We started off at Willis Tower so we could see the views of the city and take a step out onto the Skydeck. We weren’t sure if it would be worth taking the girls, so we saved it for date night. The views were amazing. I am scared of heights, so it was scary stepping out onto the Skydeck at 1,353 feet in the air, but now I can say I did it!

After the Skydeck, we walked to Taste of Chicago, and outdoor food festival. We got there a little later in the day, so we didn’t spend too much time figuring out what to eat, but we found some great options anyway. I had a taste of the Pad Thai Noodles from Star of Siam and Aged Gouda Ice Cream with Chocolate & Caramel Sauce and Waffle Cone Pieces from Pastoral. Both were delicious! If we had the time, we could have spent a few hours walking around and sampling. Taste of Chicago continues through Sunday, July 10.

As it got dark outside, we headed to Cindy’s – the rooftop bar at the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel – for a drink and a view of the skyline at night.
We capped off the night at the Navy Pier, where they have fireworks shows every Wednesday and Sunday night throughout the summer. It was a great way to cap off a fun date night, and we’ll be going back during the day with the girls for more fun activities!
