Someone once told me after you have kids, you go on trips – not on vacation. How true is that? I love traveling with my girls! We have made some awesome memories and our families are all over the place so it’s the only way we’ll get to see everyone.
Traveling with kids is a lot of work, though. Everyone gets out of their routine and a little cranky. Often, our kids don’t easily go to sleep away from home. Plus there’s lots of prep and lots of luggage – carseats, snacks, blankies, favorite stuffed animals, diapers, books, DVD players, crayons and coloring books, etc., etc., etc.
On our recent trip to Chicago, we addressed the sleep part by splitting up the girls and each laying down with one. And to manage all our stuff, we used some of our favorite Bumkins products to help keep us organized and clean – not to mention cut way back on our use of single-use plastics. Check out how we used everything and be sure to read all the way to the end for a giveaway AND a discount code!
- Bumkins Reusable Snack Bags. When traveling, we always splurge on a bag of Trader Joe’s Sesame Honey Cashews – they’re Mr. G’s favorite! Once upon a time we would put these in plastic zipper bags because they don’t re-seal once opened, but it turns out an entire bag fits into a large Bumkins snack bag. We used a whole bunch of large and small snack bags for granola bars, crackers, almonds, fruit leathers and more.
- Bumkins Clear Travel Bags. We used these in a variety of ways: toiletries, electronics accessories such as chargers and headphones, and snacks. (Yes – more snacks. I packed so much food I was pulled aside by security to search my bag!) These are great because you can see what you need.
- Bumkins Wet/Dry Bags. We packed one each in the girls’ carry on bags in the event they had soiled clothes while traveling and another in our suitcase for dirty laundry. They definitely came in handy throughout the week, but especially when the girls discovered a fountain in downtown Chicago and we had to do a wardrobe change!
- Bumkins smocks. I kept a smock in each of the girls bags throughout our vacation. (It’s amazing how calling something a smock instead of a bib makes it OK for a 4-year-old to wear! Because bibs are for babies, obviously.) The smocks kept the kids clothes clean during a week of meals, including family celebrations, deep-dish pizza and hot dogs at Wrigley Field. After the girls ate, we would wipe the smocks clean and fold them up until the next meal out!
Now for the giveaway! One winner will receive one Wet/Dry Bag, one set of three Clear Travel Bags, one two-pack of Small Snack Bags courtesy of Bumkins PLUS I am throwing in a $20 Starbucks card because we all know what a momma REALLY needs while traveling with kids is caffeine! The contest runs through Sunday, July 24. As a bonus, you can use discount code “Tammy” through Aug. 19 for a 15 percent discount on all Bumkins bags!
