Many, many moons ago, I decided I need to rebrand my blog. It was previously my initials (tmkg) and didn’t mean much to anyone other than myself. We (myself, husband, sister, friends) went around and around about what the new name should be, but we kept coming back to one: Momma Tammy.
This made sense for a few reasons. To understand one of them, I’ll give you a little back story. I grew up in California and Mr. G grew up in Arizona. We met in Arizona after college, but moved to Reno when we were engaged, and that’s where Pumpkin was born.
When she was not quite 2, I got a job back in Phoenix, and she and I had to move rather quickly, but Mr. G stayed back for a couple months to take care of things (like selling the house). For a couple weeks, Pumpkin and I stayed with my in-laws until we found our own place. It was then that she learned my first name was Tammy. Obviously she had heard it before, but since my husband normally calls me “momma” (if he’s talking to the kids) or “babe” (if he’s talking to me) at home, she didn’t really put it together until hearing my in-laws say it to me frequently. For months she was calling me “Momma Tammy.” At first, I think it was funny to her to use my first name, and then it became a habit and stuck around.
The other reason behind using Momma Tammy as the blog name is that the blog is a partially about parenting and being a mom (Momma), but it’s also about me (Tammy) and my life separate from being a parent. The name Momma Tammy means yes, I am a mom, but I’m still Tammy, too.
While I’ve had the name for a bit, it took me a while to get the site up and running. Finally, I got some professional help and it moved things along a lot more quickly! A big thank you to Shine Avenue Creative for their work on the site, and to Design Sprout for listening to my story and capturing it in a logo.
And thank you to all of you who are reading.I have taken a bit of a break from writing while my site was being developed and I’m excited to get going again! I hope you’ll stick around for more of the stories, crafts, travel, cooking and lifestyle posts to come!
