A couple weeks ago, Rumbi Island Grill invited me to a blogger event to sample some of their new sweet pork menu items. I thought it would be a good opportunity for a date with Peanut. I forgot about one thing: she’s 3.
First, I picked up Peanut from school and she immediately began screaming. I think she screamed for about 10 minutes straight during the drive. There’s just no reasoning with a threenager. But some “Let it Go” and “Elmo’s Song” turned it around before we got to the restaurant.
Remember when I said she’s the eater? Now, normally that’s true. She’ll try pretty much everything … unless her sister proclaims it disgusting first. But she turned 3 and decided she makes her own decisions, and although I was hoping she’d try something new, once she heard mac and cheese, she didn’t hear anything else. Until said mac and cheese arrived, and then she didn’t want anything to do with it – she wanted to sit on my lap and dip the tortilla strips from the top of my Sweet Pork Salad in ranch dressing. The staff was kind enough to give her her own side of tortilla strips (with ranch!) so I could eat my own food.
Next, we sampled some of the Sweet Pork Tacos. I enjoyed the tacos, while Peanut noshed on the rice and beans. The sweet pork was delicious!
Toddler jokes aside, we had a great time. Overall, Rumbi’s reminded me of an island-themed Rubio’s – casual, tasty, an easy place to take the kiddos for a quick meal. And since there are burgers and mac and cheese on the kids’ menu, even Pumpkin (my picky eater) would be able to find something she likes.
