After a hiatus of many months, I’m bringing back my Week in Review! Read on for some of the fun stuff we did this week, plus what we’re eating, listening to, watching and wearing.
Week in Review, June 12-18, 2017
Pumpkin started swim lessons last Monday and is already doing so much better than last summer. She loves the water! (And she’s super excited that she’s surpassed the lion’s tail even though the water slide doesn’t run while we’re there – she’s been waiting three summers to reach it!)
On Tuesday, I attended an advance screening of Rough Night with my friend Terri. It was funnier than I expected and a fun moms’ night out!
Shop on the Hill in Cave Creek hosted a blogger night on Friday. For a relatively small space, the shop carries a ton of products from local small businesses – some that I already love and some I’m really excited I was able to try! I haven’t spent much time in Cave creek before and I was surprised at how many shops and restaurants were up there. Looking forward to going back and spending more time exploring when the weather cools off a bit!
Mr. G had to spend a few hours working on Father’s Day, but we celebrated him with a bagel breakfast and gifts before work and a barbecue with the whole family at my sister-in-law’s in the afternoon, which included lots of time in the pool cooling off from the 112-degree temps!
With such a busy (and hot!) week, I didn’t do a lot of cooking, but I did try this Spaghetti Squash with Bacon, Spinach and Goat Cheese and it was delicious! (We didn’t event attempt to feed it to the girls, we knew they wouldn’t go for it.) I roasted the squash one night after the girls went to bed, which helped keep the house from being too hot, and did the rest of the steps the next day. Another way to save time and beat the heat was to buy a roast chicken early in the week. I cut the whole thing up when I brought it home, and helped us get the girls fed quickly after swim lessons for a few more nights.
I bought this Collective Concepts romper last week during the Frances Vintage anniversary sale and it’s a great piece for summer – light and comfortable! I’ve wanted a romper forever and I’m glad I finally got one. I anticipate it will be a weekend staple for the next few months.
I’ve been loving listening to The Mama Advantage podcast on my commute. Megan is hometown friend, and I love the way she frames motherhood as an advantage in business and elsewhere, and she has a diverse set of guests with a variety of perspectives. BTW, I’m pretty new to podcasts – tell me about your favorites!
Mr. G and I finished up the latest season of House of Cards this week. Did you watch it? I’m not sure I was quite as captivated as past seasons, but I did think Claire’s wardrobe was 100 percent on point. Trying not to post any spoilers for those who haven’t seen it, but if you have let me know what you thought!
See how the girls and I are spreading kindness and making it a game this summer!
