This past week was busy but so much fun! We traveled a bit and saw mountains, desert and ocean – in the span of just 36 hours!
Week in Review, July 3-9, 2017
We started out our week in Flagstaff where we celebrated the Fourth of July with my in-laws. We had lots of fun doing some of our favorite things (watching trains, making s’mores) and checking out some new spots (we discovered a new park and tried a new coffee shop). We also enjoyed watching the Independence Day parade downtown (and the girls loved all the candy they came home with).
Later in the week, Mr. G’s parents took the girls while Mr. G and I headed to Cabo (more to come on that) for a friend’s wedding. We stayed in an all-inclusive resort on the beach and had a really nice, relaxing trip visiting with friends and hanging out in the pool.
I finished the Mindy Kaling book “Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?” while in Cabo. It was amusing and an easy read, but I’m not sure how relevant it is to people outside our age group (I just looked it up and Mindy and I are pretty much the exact same age). Also – even though it’s only five years old – there are places where the book feels dated already. (References to the Cosby show without any mention of recent scandals, for instance, or to Amy Poehler and Will Arnett’s marriage, who are now split, for example.) | Based on a recommendation, I started reading The Persian Pickle Club and I love it so far. It’s a Depression-era novel about a quilting group and so far it’s delightful.
The nice thing about having my own blog is that I can just add some random categories to this weekly standing post even though they will probably only be used once, such as this one. So – a few things. Instagram always suggests cake-decorating videos to me in suggested posts. And they do this because I can’t help but watch them. They are so relaxing to watch. Like those oddly satisfying videos. I can watch them over and over. This is one of the baking accounts I follow because of both the videos and the humor. | I am loving the Protest Cakes account. I don’t get very political here, but some of these cakes are really on point and I think it’s just such a brilliant idea to channel your feelings into dessert food. | I don’t know many Drake lyrics, but just the fact that a whole feed is dedicated to Drake on Cake exists in the world makes me laugh.
Speaking of Instagram

Pumpkin and I love the Frida and Diego exhibit at the Heard Museum! It’s only in Phoenix until Aug. 20.
